Chapel walk May 2021 Branst Weert Hingene

This recreational bike ride departs from the parish secretary's office (formerly the rectory) in front of the main church of Bornem. In the month of May, the parish team organizes a treasure hunt regarding 5 chapels that we pass during this bike ride. We cycle south towards Oppuurs. We pass the children's farm, and just beyond the Bornem fort, we head west to "Het Hoogste" and "Den Boskant". Quiet bike paths allow us to enjoy the rural character. Via Riddermoerstraat, we cycle through the heathland to Branst, and we are immediately in the Schelde region. High tide, low tide... the Schelde always impresses a little. We soon reach the first chapel of the treasure hunt. In picturesque Weert, we turn right at tavern/restaurant "Het oud gemeentehuis" to the second chapel of the treasure hunt. After that, we return to Het Oud Gemeentehuis and cycle along the Old Schelde on a very beautiful bike path with a magnificent view of the castle of Count Marnix of Saint Aldegonde. This path takes us back to the Schelde bank via "Het Sas". A safe bike path under the Temse Bridge (or is it the bridge of Bornem?) heads towards "De Notelaar". Now you have to tackle a stretch of cobblestones, but the reward is great when you can blissfully bike over idyllic forest paths in the domain of Castle D' Ursel. Enjoy the beautiful view of the castle and the pleasant bustle that can be experienced there in nice weather. On the way back to Bornem, there are two more chapels along our route. Hopefully, you will find the correct answers to the treasure hunt there.
