Kiebitzbrack

The Kiebitzbrack is a 3.7-hectare brackish water area in the Vierlande district of Hamburg at the eastern source of the Gose Elbe. It is located on the border of the districts of Kirchwerder and Neuengamme in the Kiebitzbrack nature reserve. The waterway is named after the lapwing, or the house located at the western edge, which was marked as Kiebitz in old maps. In the 18th century, it was also referred to as Elbdammsbrack.
The approximately 390 m long and a maximum of 290 m wide water body, with depths of up to 8 meters, was probably created around the 17th century. Nowadays, it is the source of the Gose-Elbe ditch, which continues as the Gose Elbe and flows into the Dove Elbe at the nature reserve Die Reit in Reitbrook.
