Altmarkrundkurs: From the Hanseatic city of Stendal to Tangerhütte

Short description

This short stage of the Altmark round course leads us from the oldest city in the Altmark, the Hanseatic city of Stendal, to the youngest, the city of Tangerhütte, which only received its name in the 20th century through iron smelting.

Description

It goes from the impressive brick buildings of the Hanseatic city of Stendal through the cheerful landscape of the Altmark and the lowland areas of the Uchte and Elbe rivers to Tangerhütte, an industrial city whose past in iron foundries is still tangible today. The wildlife park in Weißewarte (currently unfortunately closed) is a wonderful intermediate destination before we let ourselves be impressed by the New Castle and its landscape park in Tangerhütte.

Route description

The stage leads us on the well-signposted Altmark round course via Demker to Weißewarte. From Weißewarte, it is only a few more kilometers to the entrance of Tangerhütte. We recommend leaving the Altmark round course in Tangerhütte to the south towards the New Castle and the park.
