San Vicente was built to serve the parishioners of the parish that had existed in the castle of Casserres, when it became the new monastery of San Pedro and the existing church became monastic. The new temple was built in a central location for the entire congregation, acting as a parish church, very close to the riverbed. This is why it was initially known as San Vicente Sa Riera (or Sarriera). It belonged to the jurisdiction of the monastery of Casserres. In the 13th century, it had about ten farmhouses on both sides of the Ter.
When the Sau dam was built in 1962, the church, which had turned into a storage area for the Verders farmhouse, was submerged under the waters. At the end of 1973 and the beginning of 1974, taking advantage of the low water level of the reservoir, it was dismantled stone by stone and reconstructed behind the Can Deu farmhouse (Sabadell), as we see it today.
