This tour aims to see the main points of interest along the Golfo Di Castellamare , departing from Balestrate.
We drive along the coast to the first stop, the panoramic viewpoint over Castellamare and the gulf.
We continue to Scopello , where we first visit the Tonnara , an idyllic place where the tuna was caught and processed. A museum visit is still possible. Here, at the Faraglioni (rocks rising out of the sea) , several films and commercials have also been filmed, including 2004's Ocean's Twelve starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta Jones and Julia Roberts. You can park here for a fee in the provided car parks, or park your car a little further along the side of the road. Access to the site is also payable.
We drive to Scopello for a visit to the Blaglia, among others.
The ride now heads to the Capo San Vito . It becomes difficult to also do both the Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro and the Grotta Mangiapane in one day, along with a visit to the seaside resort of San Vito Lo Capo. Check out the accompanying video of a visit to the cave!
It is best to initially make a choice between the nature of Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro and the open-air museum of the Grotta Mangiapane.
In any case, a drive up to San Vito Lo Capo is a must to enjoy the beautiful views from Belvedere Bue Marino on Monte Monaco and the silhouette of Monte Cofano. Here is also one of the most loved and visited beaches in Italy, the bay of Bue Marino , awarded in 2016 with the Legambiente competition “ La più bella sei tu ” as well as .
We pass the Capella di Santa Crescenzia, known for its legend.
During the drive to the Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro we pass the Tonnara del Secco. The nature reserve is an important hiking area - including a walk to the top of Monte Monaco (528m) - and also known for its many idyllic beaches , which can only be reached on foot.
Return and continue to the Grotta Mangiapane, an abandoned village since 1950 on an 80 meter high cave, which is maintained by a group of volunteers and looks like an open-air museum.
Return to Castellamare. At the viewpoint it is best to stop again because the sunlight now ideally comes from the back. Normally it is also calmer in the late afternoon.
Be sure to also consult the information about the sights once you are there . They explain what you get to see!
This tour is part of a series of city walks and tours departing from Balestrate and Sambucco di Sicilia and described in
"Discover all the sights of western Sicily through day trips"
