Posterholt

Posterholt is a church village in Dutch Limburg and was an independent municipality until 1991, when it merged with the former municipalities of Sint Odiliënberg and Montfort to form the municipality of Ambt Montfort. Since 2007, it has been part of the municipality of Roerdalen.
The village has developed as a ribbon along the northern bank of the Vlootbeek, extending over a length of approximately 5 kilometers. The main road between the cities of Roermond and Heinsberg that runs along the ribbon development has been relocated to the northern side of the village (the N293).
On the western side of the village lies the hamlet of Reutje, a few kilometers to the north is the place Vlodrop, and to the east, beyond the nearby border with Germany, is the village of Karken. The main road to Roermond continues towards Sint Odiliënberg, which is gradually growing closer to Posterholt due to new housing developments.
Posterholt is still situated in a fairly expansive and rural area, with forests to the south.
The name Posterholt literally means 'higher located forest'. Posterholt is at an altitude of 65m above sea level. In this village, there are just over 4500 residents.
