Walking along the peat pillars in the Pannenhoef part 2

This 7-kilometer-long junction hiking route leads through the nature reserve de Pannenhoef.
De Pannenhoef is a nature reserve of approximately 706 ha located between Zundert, Etten-Leur, and Rijsbergen in the province of North Brabant and is owned by the Brabants Landschap Foundation. The area, which largely consists of mixed forest, contains eleven fens and some heath remnants with significant natural value. Many birds breed here, including the green woodpecker and buzzard.

In this area, peat was extracted from the 14th to the 17th century.

While walking, you will pass two peat poles and cross a former peat shipping route a few times.

Peat poles are steel artworks that refer to the history of peat.
Each small pole addresses a specific theme.
The large poles indicate the thickness of the extracted peat and also contain a beautiful poem.
