The "bakery Bloch" can be recommended for an early breakfast. Three generations ago, in the year 1898, grandfather Bloch established his shop. During the World War, the family had to leave the countrybecause of their Jewish origin. The grandmother stayed, but she was deported and she never came back. The shop was taken over by a collaborator of the Nazies.
Her son Jacques took over again after the year 1945. He was more interested in chemistry and his son François took care of the affairs after a few decades. Bloch is not exactly the cheapest bakery of Ghent, but his pastries are well known. Everything is made here with real butter. You should try the local speculaas and the cheese cake.
The families is originating from the Alsace. That's why there are so many specialties from that region here available.
