This chapel for Saint Renelde was constructed around 1900 by the Dorlodot family, founder of the well known ‘Manufacture Belge de Plumes Métalliques de Floreffe’ (Belgian factory of metal pens of Floreffe).
A small gothic inspired building, harbors a statue of the holy Renelde. Up until the fifties it was a real place of pilgrimage, where the believers came to bathe their painful limbs in the healing spring.
The spring water was very good for skin diseases (psoriasis e.g.)
“The virgin Renelde was the daughter of Saint Amelberg and sister of Saint Gudule.
She entered the convent in Saintes, Belgium.
She was killed together with two other members of the church by the Huns, who were ravaging the area (source: 10,000 saints, Publisher Brepols).
Renelde is invoked for incurable skin diseases . They took water from the meadow of her parents and use it for dressings.”
As a counter measure for a healing, the sick still hang a piece of material, which was exposed to the disease, in the back of the chapel.
The site was recently restored and invites for a quiet walk in the little park.
