Paestum, o Pèstum, fou una antiga ciutat de la Lucània prop de la mar Tirrena, a uns 7 km al sud de la desembocadura del Silarus. Fou fundada pels grecs de Síbaris amb el nom de Posidònia en una data desconeguda, probablement a finals del segle VII o primera meitat del VI aC. La colònia fou establerta amb participació dels doris de Trezè. Segons Estrabó, fou fundada a la costa i traslladada una mica a l'interior, però, de fet, les ruïnes se'n troben només a 1 km de la costa.
