Ardchonnel castle dates from the 11th century, and belonged to the ancestors of the Duke of Argyll who was the chief of Clan Campbell. It is now a ruin covered in heather. It was from here that the saying “It’s a far cry to Lochow” came from, since they often launched attacks from this island.
