It rises on the Hallam moors, in north west Sheffield, and joins the River Loxley . The Rivelin Valley, through which the river flows, is a 3+1⁄2-mile-long woodland valley which includes the popular Rivelin Valley Nature Trail that was created in 1967. The valley has farmland on its gentler upper slopes. Tributaries include the Wyming Brook, Allen Sike and the Black Brook. The Rivelin Dams are to be found at the head of the valley.
