Game on!

Because organic material quickly rots away, it is unusual to find ivory game pieces from medieval times. The Anglo Saxons probably played a game like checkers on a wooden board. In the later middle ages we know people played chess. The British Museum has some of most famous chess pieces in the world called the Lewis Chessmen, which date from around AD 1100. They are made from walrus tusks and whale teeth. Look at the pictures of the Lewis Chessmen above. The one biting his shield is a 'beserker', a warrior who is preparing himself for battle.
