7. The pharaoh had to undertake many tests before he could make it to the afterlife. The priest had to place a papyrus roll with his mummy called the 'Book of the Dead'. This was a book of powerful spells to help him to overcome all obstacles.
Look closely at the picture: this scene shows the pharaoh's final task. His heart was weighed against a feather. If the heart and the feather were balanced, the pharaoh had lived a good life and could enter the afterlife. If not, his heart was eaten by a beast called Ammit.
Before you move on, look behind you. Can you see any of the amulets the pharaoh's sarcophagus was holding?
