Wat Phra Mani houses a much revered Buddha image Luang Pho Pak Daeng (the red-lipped Buddha image) clad in a bullet wood flower pattern cloak brought here from Vientiane by migrating Laotians. It is said that Laotian people had brought this Buddha image from Vientiane when the city was invaded. The 37th Quartermaster Infantry of the Japanese Military Memorial is also located in this temple. During the Greater East Asia War (1939-1945), the 37th Quartermaster Infantry of the Japanese Military located their camp at the temple. In 1989, the Friend of Asian Alliance War Association built the memorial to honour the 7,929 soldiers who died in the war. Their ashes which were once placed in the temple are now put in the altar of the memorial.
