Negli anni '50, il vescovo di Gand, Carlo Giustino Calewaert, decise di far realizzare una copia del pannello scomparso dei Giusti Giudici.
A tal fine, si rivolse all'artista, Julien Van der Veeken. Quest'uomo accettò volentieri l'incarico del vescovo, ma voleva mettere la sua firma, come ogni artista che si rispetti. Per poter imprimere il suo timbro sul pannello e per far capire agli spettatori che si trattava di una copia, sostituì uno dei personaggi del XV secolo con un uomo moderno: il allora re dei Belgi, Leopoldo III, vide la sua testa apparire sul corpo divino di uno dei Giusti Giudici.
