Het gebouw is een grote grijze stenen structuur in de Victoriaans-Gotische stijl en is ontworpen door George Edmund Street, een advocaat die architect werd. Het werd gebouwd in de jaren 1870. De Royal Courts of Justice werden geopend door koningin Victoria in december 1882. Ze bevinden zich aan The Strand, in de City of Westminster, dicht bij de City of London en Camden. Het is omgeven door de vier Inns of Court en de London School of Economics.
