La cappella Chigi fu progettata da Raffaello per il suo amico e patrono, il banchiere senese Agostino Chigi, e completata da Gian Lorenzo Bernini più di un secolo dopo la morte di Raffaello nel 1520. Raffaello diede alla cappella un piano ottagonale centralizzato che rappresenta la Creazione del Mondo circondata dal sole e dai sette pianeti classici, ognuno mosso da un angelo.
Parte del libro di Dan Brown Angeli e Demoni si svolge nella Cappella Chigi, dove la scultura di Habakkuk e l'Angelo è uno dei quattro "marker" che conducono a un'antica tana nel Castel Sant'Angelo.
