Kasteel Hackfort werd reeds in 1392 vermeld. Het is begonnen als een woontoren en grotendeels verwoest door Spaanse troepen in 1586 tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog. De grachten werden gedempt. Het kasteel verkeert in goede staat en ligt prachtig te midden van bossen en weilanden.
De omgeving is vrij toegankelijks, dankzij de huidige eigenaar de Vereniging tot Behoud van Natuurmonumenten.
