About the artist
Stynen studied architecture at the Antwerp Academy. In 1925, he became captivated by the innovative ideas of Le Corbusier in Paris. He designed the Belgian Pavilion at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, the Casinos of Knokke, Ostend, and Chaudfontaine, and the Cultural Center of Ukkel. The triangle formed by the old Antwerp fortress, BP-building, Esso-Hotel, conservatory, and the Singel is regarded as his masterpiece.
