Vroeger was het Stropersbos een lappendeken van waardevolle elzenbroekbossen, heide en heischrale graslanden, intussen behoorlijk zeldzame natuur in Europa. In de loop der jaren verschenen in het Stropersbos aanplantingen met naaldhout, akkers en monotone graslanden die deze waardevolle biotopen verdrongen. Een dalende grondwaterstand maakte het de elzenbroekbossen dan weer knap lastig. Met het natuurinrichtings- en LIFE-project werd het oorspronkelijke landschap in ere hersteld. In de periode 2001 – 2010 kreeg het bos een opmerkelijke facelift.Nu kan je hier opnieuw genieten van schitterende natuur in een landschap van weleer.
