La forme inhabituelle de la montagne Pic de Bugarach est à l'origine de certaines théories inhabituelles chez certaines personnes. Un groupe de New Agers croit que la montagne abrite des extraterrestres vivant dans un vaisseau spatial. Ce groupe croyait également que la fin du calendrier long compte mésoaméricain entraînerait une forme d'apocalypse le 21 décembre 2012. Mais à ce moment-là, les extraterrestres vivant dans la montagne émergeraient pour les sauver. Ces deux événements ne se sont pas produits.
