Urk, along with Schokland, is also part of the strictly Reformed and conservative Bible Belt. Like Schokland, Urk was an island until the land reclamation, and now it lies on the polder edge by the IJsselmeer. It has an inner and an outer harbor and a fleet that fishes in both the North Sea and the IJsselmeer (for sole and plaice, it is the first harbor in the Netherlands). As mentioned, the residents of Urk hold on to traditions, not only in terms of faith but also when it comes to clothing: the traditional costume is gladly worn there.
