Great news for people who enjoy walking with nodes. From now on, you can also do node walks in most of the regions of Wallonia! Effortlessly discover 12,750 km of hiking trails thanks to RouteYou's virtual nodes network. Over 85% of the network consists of unpaved paths or low-traffic roads that take you through the greenest and most peaceful regions of Wallonia.

There’s no denying the popularity of walking via nodes. The East Cantons recently launched a beautiful walking nodes network, and in the Netherlands and Flanders walking nodes networks have been established for years. Increasingly, virtual nodes networks are taking their place alongside the signposted alternatives. “Figures show that virtual nodes are almost as popular as nodes that are signposted,” said Sven Nijs of NodeMapp. Therefore, in response to the demands of our users and in support of the Walloon community, RouteYou decided to develop a virtual hiking node network in Wallonia, which means that they can unlock great trails in a very accessible way.

What to expect

Expect a network:

  • which is easy to use and navigate thanks to its proven nodes system
  • with a visual distinction between unpaved and paved paths
  • that mainly uses car-free and low-traffic roads
  • with a density that is nicely balanced between not too big and not too small.

The first version of this network will certainly not be the last. Although the network initially only covers parts of Hainaut, Namur and Luxembourg, by the end of the year, we will have completed it for other Walloon regions.

This network is a dynamic concept that will be adapted based on input from both professional organisations and individuals with knowledge of the area. When new local or regional networks or routes are created, RouteYou will adjust the hiking node network based on that professional input. But equally, an individual user's local terrain knowledge can also be taken as a reference
