George Orwell, the famous author of '1984' and 'Animal Farm',  went to Spain to fight there in the Spanish Civil War. He enrolled in Barcelona.

During the Civil War in Barcelona, bullfighting was banned. Not because they were against the bullfighting, but because all the major matadors (bulffighters) were fascists.

George Orwell and his wife survived the war.
