Bas Maters - Arnhem, 2000
De zwevende Kei is geplaatst in 2000 in het kader van het landinrichtingsproject “Marshoek-Hoonhorst. Dit markante oriëntatiepunt met zijn glooiing sluit mooi aan bij het iets glooiende Vechtdal-landschap en wordt prachtig gecomplementeerd met de hier ronddolende schapen. Bas Maters zelf noemt zijn creatie een oerding: een enorme zwerfkei die balanceert op een scheef staand zuilelement, zoals dat gezien wordt in ruïnes uit de oudheid. Het oerding is opgebouwd rondom een stalen constructie die maar liefst zeventien meter de grond in gaat. Géén overdreven constructie, want het totale gewicht van de kei is zo’n dertig ton!
