Places of interest (along the route) (show all)

Kingston Hill (distance from start: 11.89 km/7.39 miles)

Kingston Hill
Aston Rowant
The first hill of the day - this is no 'undulation', it's a proper climb and your legs will have warmed up well before the top. You can then look forward to a fairly easy ride on to the first rest-stop at Freith.

Red Kites (distance from start: 16.09 km/10 miles)

Red Kites
Lewknor
Throughout the route you should see Red Kites with their distinctive forked tails. They were re-introduced in this area some years ago and numbers continue to climb.

Frieth Village Hall Rest-Stop (distance from start: 29.68 km/18.44 miles)

Frieth Village Hall Rest-Stop
Hambleden
An ideal opportunity to catch your breath and re-fuel before an 'undulating' few miles ahead

(distance from start: 37.04 km/23.01 miles)

Medmenham
A nice descent through the trees - there is fairly sharp corner at the bottom and it is only after this that you will see the steep climb in front of you.

Get on your small chain-ring well before the bottom, you'll not be carrying any speed into this climb!

First Route-Split (distance from start: 47.93 km/29.78 miles)

First Route-Split
Fawley
As you approach Henley you come to the first of 2 route-splits on the ride. The 100 mile route turns RIGHT back into the hills.

Lane towards Fawley (distance from start: 49.26 km/30.61 miles)

Lane towards Fawley
Bix and Assendon
You may be getting tired of the hills by now, but at least you don't have a passenger on tow!

Highmoor Cross Memorial Hall (distance from start: 67.61 km/42.01 miles)

Highmoor Cross Memorial Hall
Highmoor
The 2nd Rest-stop of the day is conveniently situated on the junction where you re-join the 100km riders.

Quiet Lane (distance from start: 75.19 km/46.72 miles)

Quiet Lane
Checkendon
These quiet wooded lanes are typical of this part of the Chilterns.

Poppies (distance from start: 84.62 km/52.58 miles)

Poppies
Crowmarsh
There are often fields of Poppies in bloom in this area of the chilterns. Quiet beautiful.

Crowmarsh Gifford Village Hall (distance from start: 87.64 km/54.46 miles)

Crowmarsh Gifford Village Hall
Crowmarsh
This is the main refeshment halt where lunch will be available. There are some sizeable shaded lawned aeas for relaxing over lunch. There is a large parking area so there should be plenty of room for everyone to get their bikes off the road.

Shillingford (distance from start: 92.36 km/57.39 miles)

Shillingford
Warborough
After crossing Shillingford Bridge (2nd bridge after lunch) the routes split at the roundabout. The 100 mile route turns LEFT to head into Dorchester.

The Haseleys (distance from start: 112.32 km/69.79 miles)

The Haseleys
Great Haseley
Lots of character as you ride through The Haseleys

Great Haseley Windmill (distance from start: 114.07 km/70.88 miles)

Great Haseley Windmill
Great Milton
As you come out of Great Haseley, look for the gap towards the end of the high hedge on the right for a view of this windmill over the farmers gate

Littleworth Windmill (distance from start: 122.26 km/75.97 miles)

Littleworth Windmill
Cuddesdon and Denton
The Windmill in Littleworth as viewed from the route. Unfortunately the gravel track past the windmill is not of a suitable surface to have been part of the cycle route.

Worminghall Village Hall (distance from start: 128.93 km/80.11 miles)

Worminghall Village Hall
Waterperry
Final Rest Stop of the ride. Be sure to have a good stretch and re-fuel yourself - there are a couple of climbs and a good few miles left before you get back to Thame.

The Rest Stop is down a quiet side road off the route and you will need to double-back on yourselves when leaving this rest stop to pick the route up again.

Brill Hill (distance from start: 142.14 km/88.32 miles)

Brill Hill
Brill
Climbing up to Brill from Oakley: It may look small on the elevation profile, but be sure to save some energy for this climb late-on in the ride. There's a nice long descent after Brill to look forward to.

Chilton (distance from start: 146.61 km/91.1 miles)

Chilton
Chilton
This isn't the last climb, it's merely an 'undulation' to warm your legs up after the cruise down from Brill.

Chilton - Chearsely (distance from start: 149.9 km/93.14 miles)

Chilton - Chearsely
Aylesbury Vale
At the bottom of a good descent from Chilton slow down for the bridge beneath the railway. It's a little narrower than the approaching road and there's something of an unofficial speed bump before you pass under the railway.

I always race down this descent, but I'm always on the brakes well before the railway! If it has rained heavily, you may find a rather large puddle under here. Consider dis-mounting and using the raised pathway.

The last 'proper-climb' of the day is just ahead...

Cuddington (distance from start: 153.09 km/95.13 miles)

Cuddington
Cuddington
It's not a climb, just a minor undulation. It's pretty flat from here back to Thame.
