Meredith Susanna Cara Kercher va ser una estudiant britànica d'intercanvi de la Universitat de Leeds que va ser assassinada als 21 anys a Perusa, Itàlia. Kercher va ser trobada morta al terra del seu dormitori. Quan les empremtes dactilars tacades de sang al lloc dels fets es van identificar com a pertanyents a Rudy Guede, la policia havia acusat la companya de pis nord-americana de Kercher, Amanda Knox, i el xicot italià de Knox, Raffaele Sollecito. Els processaments posteriors de Knox i Sollecito van rebre atenció mediàtica internacional, amb experts forenses i juristes que van fer una visió crítica de les proves que donaven suport a les sentències de culpabilitat inicials.
