Usedom ist eine in der Pommerschen Bucht der südlichen Ostsee gelegene Insel, die größtenteils zu Deutschland und zu einem kleinen Teil zu Polen gehört. Durch den Peenestrom und das Stettiner Haff ist sie vom Festland getrennt und durch die Świna von der Nachbarinsel Wolin. Nach Rügen ist Usedom die zweitgrößte deutsche Insel. Bis 1945 gehörte sie zur preußischen Provinz Pommern.
Heute gehört der größere deutsche Teil zum Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und ist Teil des Landkreises Vorpommern-Greifswald. Im östlichen – heute polnischen – Teil liegt die zur Woiwodschaft Westpommern gehörende Hafenstadt Świnoujście , in der allein schon mehr als die Hälfte der 76.500 Einwohner zählenden Gesamtinselbevölkerung lebt. Die größten Orte auf deutscher Seite sind Heringsdorf im Osten und Zinnowitz im Westen der Insel.
