Saint-Lô es un municipio francés, situado en el departamento de Mancha y en la región de Normandía. El nombre celta original del asentamiento era Briovere, que significa puente sobre el agua que gira, que se refiere al río Vire. Hacia 750 cambia de nombre por Saint-Laud, obispo de Coutances. Carlomagno la hizo amurallar en el siglo IX, pero las murallas no detuvieron el saqueo vikingo de 890.
