Ces tours médiévales sont les seuls restants des anciennes fortifications de la ville. La tour sud, la 'Speyetoren' (± 1385), faisait partie des remparts fortifiés du château des Comtes de Flandre. La tour nord, la 'Ingelborchtoren' (± 1413), fut érigée pour assurer une défense d'artillerie rudimentaire.
Seulement ouvert pendant quelques festivités. Les tours sont pendant l'année seulement accessible avec un guide.
