Il canale Amsterdam-Rijn è il canale tra Amsterdam e Tiel (dallo IJ al Reno). Collega il porto di Amsterdam con la regione della Ruhr (Germania) ed è il canale più trafficato del mondo. Il canale è lungo 72 chilometri, largo da 100 a 120 metri e profondo 6 metri.
Nel 1931 fu stabilito per legge che il canale doveva essere costruito. Tuttavia, la crisi e la Seconda Guerra Mondiale ritardarono i lavori. Solo il 21 maggio 1952 il canale fu inaugurato dalla regina Giuliana, lungo tutta la sua lunghezza di 72 chilometri.
