Melgar staat in Colombia bekend als de "Stad van de Zwembaden" of de "Zee van Zwembaden" omwille van zijn meer dan 5000 zwembaden. Het is een belangrijk binnenlands resort, dat de mensen van Bogotá regelmatig bezoeken in het weekend. Dit om het warme klimaat van de vallei te ontvluchten.
