Der Friedhof Ohlsdorf im Hamburger Stadtteil Ohlsdorf wurde am 1. Juli 1877 eingeweiht und ist mit 389 Hektar der größte Parkfriedhof der Welt. Über das gesamte Areal verteilen sich 202.000 Grabstätten. Auf dem Ohlsdorfer Friedhof haben seit seiner Gründung über 1,4 Millionen Beisetzungen stattgefunden, jährlich kommen 4500 Beisetzungen dazu. Zum Vergleich: Der Wiener Zentralfriedhof hat eine Größe von 250 Hektar mit 330.000 Grabstellen.
Als größter Parkfriedhof der Welt ist der Friedhof Ohlsdorf allerdings nicht der größte Friedhof der Welt. Als größter Friedhof der Welt wird der Wadi al-Salam in Nadschaf/Irak mit einer Größe von 917 Hektar geführt. Es folgt der Behescht-e Zahra in Teheran/Iran mit 424 Hektar. Platz 3 nimmt der Calverton National Cemetery auf Long Island/New York/USA mit 423 Hektar ein. Dann folgt, weltweit auf Platz 4, der Ohlsdorfer Friedhof mit seinen 389 Hektar.
