Das Kloster wurde im Jahr 1151 von Augustiner-Chorherren am Ufer des Flusses Wharfe gegründet, das 1154 Land von Lady Alice de Romille vom Schloss Skipton erhielt. Im frühen 14. Jahrhundert führte eine Plünderung durch Schotten zu schweren Schäden an den Gebäuden und zur vorübergehenden Aufgabe des Klosters. Nach der Auflösung des Klosters im Jahr 1170 wurde die Klosterkirche zur Pfarrkirche. Endgültig aufgegeben wurde es im Jahr 1539. Das Langhaus der Kirche wird als anglikanische Pfarrkirche genutzt, die den Heiligen Maria und Cuthbert geweiht ist.
