L’expansion commerciale et l’industrialisation au 19e siècle ont donné lieu à l’aménagement du Canal Bossuit-Courtrai et la station de pompage.
Avec l’augmentation de la navigation, il fut nécessaire d’élargir le canal et de faire une nouvelle station de pompage.
Aujourd’hui, cet échantillon d’archéologie industrielle superbe abrite l'office de tourisme et la brasserie Beaufort. Le centre régional des visiteurs illustre ce passé et apprend 1000 et une choses sur la région.
