La Mer de Glace est un glacier de vallée alpin situé sur le versant septentrional du massif du Mont-Blanc, dans le département français de la Haute-Savoie. Il est formé par la confluence du glacier du Tacul et du glacier de Leschaux et s'épanche dans la vallée de l'Arve, sur le territoire de la commune de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, donnant naissance à l'Arveyron. Le glacier s'étend sur sept kilomètres de long, son bassin d'alimentation possède une longueur maximale de douze kilomètres et une superficie de 40 km2, alors que son épaisseur atteint 300 mètres.
