Deze kruisvormige basiliek werd opgetrokken in romaanse stijl in de 12de eeuw. De basis gaat terug tot omstreeks het jaar duizend. In 1406 werd de huidige toren in gotische stijl eraan toegevoegd.
In 1903-04 volgde nog een neoromaanse uitbreiding tijdens een grondige restauratie. De kerk behield haar sobere romaanse sfeer maar bezit wel heel wat kerkschatten: de triomfboog, enkele fresco’s, de koorlezenaar, Sint-Jorisbeeld,… Biechtstoelen en andere meubilair zijn in Luikse stijl. Het koorgestoelte met 27 stoelen versierd met maskers is een staaltje van barokschrijnwerk van de hand van een plaatselijke vakman (17de eeuw).
In de buurt ,,burchtheuvel’’, het restant van de gesloopte burcht van de graven van Loon, op de heuvel van 118 meter.
