L’Empire State Building és un gratacels ocupat per oficines de 102 plantes a la ciutat de Nova York. El seu nom prové del sobrenom de l'estat de Nova York, l'Estat-Imperi. Va ser construït entre 1929 i 1931, durant la Gran Depressió. Compta amb 102 plantes i un total de 381 metres d'alçada . D'estil art déco, va ser dissenyat per l'estudi d'arquitectes Shreve, Lamb and Hermon. Gràcies al baix preu de la mà d'obra durant la Gran Depressió, la seva construcció es va dur a terme en tan sols 410 dies, i hi van treballar alhora 3.400 obrers.
L'excavació dels fonaments es va iniciar el 22 de gener de 1930, i el 17 de març va començar la construcció, a un ritme de 4,5 pisos per setmana. Va ser inaugurat l'1 de maig de 1931.
