Nach tausendjähriger Tätigkeit außerhalb des Stadtkerns (in der Straße der römischen Thermalbäder) wurde der Heiligenkult von Sankt Martin 1570 ins Zentrum, zur Kirche des Krankenhauses, verlegt (in die „Rue Basse“, der heutigen „Grand-Rue“). Nach dem großen Brand (1660) wurde sie erst 1861 wieder aufgebaut, in der Zeit als Luxemburg durch die Truppen von Louis XIV besetzt war. Ein Jahrhundert später (1785) wurden das Dach und der Kirchturm durch einen erneuten Brand verwüstet. Die Glocken schmolzen an Ort und Stelle. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde der Kirchturm wieder aufgebaut und erhöht. Im Jahre 1914 und nachdem die neue Sankt-Martins-Kirche errichtet war, wurde sie verlassen und schließlich 1935 abgerissen. Im Laufe dieser Abrissarbeiten wurde das Portal der Kirche zum jetzigen Standort, der Sankt-Donatius-Anhöhe gebracht.
