1056 wird eine Kirche in Weert genannt. 1456 wurde der erhaltene gotische Chor vollendet. Um 1500 wurde das alte Kirchenschiff abgebrochen, um die heutige dreischiffige gotische Hallenkirche zu errichten. 1512 erfolgte die Weihe. 1528 wurde mit dem Bau des Turms begonnen. Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts wurden die Arbeiten wegen Geldmangels eingestellt. Der Kirchturm erhielt 1887 einen Abschluss. Dieser stürzte 1940 herab und beschädigte das Kirchenschiff. 1960 wurde eine neue Turmspitze vollendet, die der der Eusebiuskerk in Arnhem ähnelt und vom selben Architekten stammt.
