Se extiende desde la Sierra de Rodes, al norte, hasta la desembocadura del río Fluvià Vell, al sur, con una superfície de 4783 ha. Actualmente es el segundo parque más importante de Cataluña.
El interés de las zonas de marismas se basa en el hecho que son lugares productivos desde el punto de vista biológico, acogen un buen número de especies animales y vegetale y tienen una gran importancia internacional como refugio de muchas aves migratorias.
