Érigé à l’emplacement d’un complexe palatial, récemment mis au jour, le château de Chimay, érigé en 1935, abrite un théâtre fondé par Madame Tallien, devenue princesse de Chimay en 1805.
Il date de 1863 et il se compose d’une salle ovale, à l’italienne, avec un parterre, deux balcons et la loge princière. Son remarquable plafond est constitué d’une coupole aplatie figurant le Paradis avec, en son centre, une rosace en bois ajouré.
Tout le décor s’inspire en réalité des cartons dessinés sous Louis XV pour le théâtre de Fontainebleau.
Depuis 1991, la salle accueille un concours international renommé de chant baroque.
