Il monte Adams è uno stratovulcano che si trova nello Stato di Washington ed è, con un'altezza di 3.742 metri, la terza vetta più alta della catena delle Cascate , di cui il vulcano fa ovviamente parte. Essendo una delle vette più alte delle Cascades, questa montagna attira numerosi alpinisti ogni anno.
Il monte Adams fa parte dell'arco vulcanico delle Cascate, una zona che raggruppa tutti i vulcani del Nord-Ovest Pacifico. L'ultima eruzione dell'Adams è avvenuta, secondo gli esperti, almeno 3000 anni fa. Tuttavia, vi sono diverse fumarole nei pressi dell'antico cratere , suggerendo che questo vulcano è dormiente, e non "spento". Di conseguenza, un'ipotetica prossima eruzione consisterebbe in diverse esplosioni che provocheranno flussi piroclastici e lahar.
