Deze ronde kapel had oorspronkelijk een strategische functie als wachttoren. Dit verklaart meteen de twee schietgaten in gevels. In de 18de eeuw werd de toren ingekort en omgevormd tot kapel. In de volksmond werd ze ook wel de 'Witte Kapel' genoemd.
Het kapelletje is gewijd aan de Sint-Apollonia. Deze heilige leefde in de derde eeuw. Ze werd door heidenen vervolgd omdat ze christen was. Tijdens haar vervolging sloeg men haar tanden uit. Daarom is Apollonia de patroonheilige van de tandartsen en kwamen mensen vroeger vooral op bedevaart tegen de tandpijn.
