De merkwaardige naam 'Ninglinspo' is het gevolg van een schrijffout van Franse cartografen die een flink aantal plaatsnamen verdraaiden in het 'Ourthe-departement' welke in 1876 bij ons gecreëerd werd. Zij verwisselden de naam van de stroom met de naam van het stuk grond daar waar de beek in de 'Amblève' stroomt. Dit stuk grond heette: "En Inglin spau" d.w.z. bij de bron van Inglin, naam van de persoon waarvan men het spoor bijster is. De originele naam van de beek is in feite 'Le Doulneux' (in het Latijns: Dulnosus) welke laat zien dat hij van een elzenbos afkomstig is. In de charte van 'Sigebert III' uit 647 wordt deze naam al genoemd.
