El petit castell, com també en diuen, és una mansió independent en un jardí tancat amb una porta de ferro, construïda el 1872 per Isabelle de Preudhomme d'Hailly després de la venda del gran castell de Poeke.
"Pequeño Castillo" és un sobrenom que emfatitza la diferència entre l'imponent castell de Poeke i aquesta residència més petita i íntima de la mateixa família.
El nom "Reigerbeek" es refereix a un rierol a la zona de Poeke, possiblement anomenat així per la presència de garses a la zona. A prop de Poeke hi ha un curs d'aigua anomenat Oude Reigerbeek , que es troba prop del poble i de Lotenhulle. Aquest rierol és un afluent del Poekebeek i hi desemboca.
La façana es caracteritza per una estructura de casa doble amb cinc trams i tres plantes sota una teulada a quatre aigües amb golfes.
La noble família De Preudhomme d'Hailly de Nieuport , originària del nord de França, va adquirir posteriorment considerable influència a Flandes Occidental. Ostentava diversos títols nobiliarios, inclòs el de vescomte de Nieuport , i va exercir un paper destacat en la política i l'administració locals.
