Castle De Reigerbeek - Poeke

The small castle, as it is called, is a detached mansion in an enclosed garden with an iron gate, built in 1872 by Isabelle de Preudhomme d'Hailly after the sale of the large castle of Poeke.

"Little Castle" is a nickname that emphasizes the difference between the imposing Poeke castle and this smaller, more intimate residence of the same family.

The name "Reigerbeek" refers to a stream in the area of Poeke, which may have been named because of the presence of herons in the area. Near Poeke there is a watercourse called the Oude Reigerbeek , which is located near the village and Lotenhulle. This stream is a tributary of the Poekebeek and flows into it.

The facade is characterised by a double-house structure with five bays and three storeys under a hipped roof with dormer window.

the noble family De Preudhomme d'Hailly de Nieuport , a family that originated in Northern France and later acquired considerable influence in West Flanders. The family held various noble titles, including that of Viscount of Nieuport , and played a prominent role in local politics and administration.
