Sencelles és una vila i municipi del Pla de Mallorca. Limita amb els termes de Santa Eugènia, Consell, Binissalem, Inca, Costitx, Lloret de Vistalegre i Algaida.
La conquesta cristiana portà un repartiment que deixà les terres de Sencelles, abans integrades al districte musulmà de Qanarûsha, a la part del vescomte de Bearn. El 1248 segons una butlla papal d'Innocenci IV existia una església dedicada a Sant Pere. Fins a 1855 va incloure Costitx.
