La Serra d'Aitana s'estén sobre una superfície pròxima a les deu mil hectàrees, a només uns pocs quilòmetres de la costa de la Marina. Caracteritzada per un relleu extremadament accidentat, al paisatge de la serra predomina aclaparadorament el roquissar, sobretot en els nivells superiors del vessant septentrional. És precisament en aquest vessant on es troben les altures principals: a més del pic que dona nom a la serralada , són destacables la Penya Alta , la Penya Catxa , la Penya del Mulero i l'Alt del Carrascar . L'Aitana és el cim més alt de la província d'Alacant.
